Understanding downturned mouth corners

When the corners of the mouth droop, the face can look sad, tired or disapproving even when you feel fine. Supporting and softly lifting the corners can transform a resting expression. We treat this within our marionette line softening.

What causes downturned mouth corners

As the lower face loses volume and skin elasticity, the tissue around the mouth settles downward and the corners drop. A muscle called the depressor also actively pulls the corners down. Loss of chin and lip support makes it worse over time.

Who tends to notice it

It usually becomes noticeable from the forties onwards. People often say they look grumpy or sad in photos when they feel perfectly happy, or that the corners of their mouth have started to turn down at rest.

Filler to support the corners

Carefully placed filler rebuilds support beneath the mouth corners so they sit higher and the expression softens.
