Dermaplaning is a gentle physical exfoliation. We hold the skin taut and pass a sterile single-use blade across it at an angle, lifting off dead cells and the fine vellus hair often called peach fuzz. It is quick, comfortable and leaves skin noticeably smoother the same day. It sits alongside the rest of our facials in Southport.

Why dermaplaning works

Your skin sheds cells constantly, and that shedding slows down as you get older, so dead cells sit on the surface and make skin look flat and feel rough. Dermaplaning removes that layer in one pass, along with the fine hair that traps dust and makeup and scatters light. There is no acid and no heat involved, which is why it suits people who find peels or gritty scrubs too much. It works on the surface only, so it does not affect the hair follicle and nothing grows back darker or coarser.

What to Expect After Your Treatment

Keep the routine simple for 24 hours, so no strong acids, retinoids or scrubs, and skip saunas, sunbeds and hot yoga. Use SPF every morning, as freshly exfoliated skin burns more easily. Full guidance is on our aftercare page.

Is This Right For Me?

Suitable for most adults over 18, and often a good option in pregnancy because nothing is absorbed into the skin. We avoid it over active or inflamed acne, cold sores, raised moles and broken skin. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does the hair grow back thicker?

No. The blade cuts hair at the surface and does not touch the follicle, so it returns at the same colour and thickness. It can feel blunt for a day or two as it grows.

Does dermaplaning hurt?

Most people find it painless and describe a light scraping feeling. There is no heat, no stinging and no numbing needed.

Is it safe for darker skin tones?

Yes. There is no acid, heat or light involved, so it does not carry the pigment risk that some resurfacing treatments do. We still check your skin first.

Can I wear makeup afterwards?

You can, but skin looks better if you leave it bare for the rest of the day. Makeup applies beautifully from the next morning onwards.

How is it different from shaving at home?

The blade, the angle and the technique are different, and the exfoliating effect is far greater. It also comes as part of a full facial rather than on its own.

Can it be combined with another treatment?

It pairs well with LED light therapy in the same appointment. We space it away from peels and would plan that order with you at consultation.
