What a facial can and cannot do for acne

Congestion happens when oil and dead skin block a pore. A facial addresses that directly, by softening the blockage, removing what is sitting in the pore and calming the skin around it, which is why blackheads, whiteheads and rough texture respond well. Active inflammatory acne is a different thing. Facials can support it and keep the surface clearer, but they are not a treatment for moderate or severe acne, and if that is what you have we will say so and suggest you speak to your GP about a medical route alongside anything we do.

What to Expect After Your Treatment

Keep your hands off your face, leave makeup off overnight and do not pick at anything that comes up in the next few days. Go gentle with acids for 48 hours and use SPF each morning. Full guidance is on our aftercare page.

Suitable for adults over 18 with congested, oily or breakout-prone skin. We do not extract over inflamed or painful lesions, and we avoid treating over broken skin or an active infection. Will one facial clear my skin?

No, and we would rather say that upfront. One appointment clears surface congestion and makes skin feel better. Lasting change comes from a short course plus what you do at home.

Do you squeeze spots?

We carry out gentle extractions on blackheads and whiteheads that are ready to come out. We leave inflamed, painful spots alone, because forcing those causes marking and scarring.

Can a facial make me break out?

Sometimes skin pushes existing congestion to the surface in the first week or two. That settles. We will warn you if we think your skin is likely to do it.

Do you treat teenagers?

We treat only over-18s. For younger skin with persistent acne, a GP is the right first stop and can offer options that a facial cannot.

What if I am already on acne medication?

Tell us at consultation. Some medication makes skin far more fragile, so we would either adapt the treatment or ask you to check with your GP or prescriber before we start.

Should I change my skincare at home?

Probably, and that is often where the biggest gains are. We will look at what you use and suggest changes without trying to sell you a shelf of products.
