A facial or microneedling?

One works on the surface of your skin and the other works underneath it. Here is how the two compare, so you know which is worth booking first.

Surface care versus deeper repair

Facials and microneedling both improve how your skin looks, but they work at different depths and on different timescales. A facial cleanses, exfoliates and hydrates. Microneedling asks the skin to rebuild itself over the following weeks. This guide compares them honestly, and both sit alongside our facials in Southport.

Which Treatment Is Right For You?

A layered treatment that cleanses, gently exfoliates, treats and hydrates the skin, using dermaplaning, extraction, a light peel step or LED depending on what your skin needs on the day.
A fresher look for two to four weeks, repeated every four to six weeks

This is suitable for those looking for:

Dullness, congestion, dryness and regular upkeep
Fine needles create controlled micro-channels in the skin, prompting a repair response that builds collagen over the weeks and months that follow.
Course of three to four sessions, developing over three to six months

This is suitable looking for:

Texture, acne scarring, pores and fine lines

The core difference

A facial works on the skin you have today. It lifts away dead cells, clears congestion and puts hydration back, so your skin looks brighter within a day. Microneedling works on the skin you will have in three months. It creates a controlled injury that the skin repairs with new collagen, so the change is structural rather than cosmetic. One is upkeep and the other is a course with a longer view.

Which is right for you

If your skin is dull, congested or dry and you want it looking better for an event or as regular upkeep, a facial is the sensible choice. If your concern is texture, acne scarring or fine lines, and you are happy to commit to a course over a few months, microneedling is the better fit. Many people start with a facial while we assess the skin, then move on if the concern needs more. We talk that through before anything is booked.

Can you combine them?

Not in the same visit. Microneedling leaves the skin sensitive for a few days, so a facial belongs either a week before or around two weeks afterwards. We would agree the order at your appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

No. A facial works at the surface and shows quickly. Microneedling works in the deeper layers and builds collagen over weeks, so the two are doing genuinely different jobs rather than sitting on the same scale.
If you are unsure, a facial is a gentle place to start and lets us assess your skin properly. If texture or scarring is the main concern, we would usually go straight to a microneedling course.
Your skin is usually pink and warm for one to two days, a little like mild sunburn, and can feel dry or tight for a few days after. A facial has essentially none.
A facial can improve congestion and brightness, but it will not change scar texture. Microneedling is the treatment aimed at that, and it takes a course rather than a single session.
Facials suit every four to six weeks as upkeep. Microneedling is usually three or four sessions spaced four weeks apart, then a top-up once or twice a year.

Every facial at The Skin and Aesthetics House starts with a proper look at your skin, so we choose the treatment that fits rather than the one on the poster. If we think a facial is not the answer, we will say so. We treat only over-18s.
